Our Story
“I hold the fondest memories of visiting my grandfather at the salt farms: hot summers with clear skies, big family gatherings and delicious food.”

My days would be spent admiring the views, helping my grandfather at work, or making the most of the coast’s bounty: searching for crabs, clams and shrimp.
Back then the region was alive with salt farmers earning a basic living producing the world’s oldest commodity.
In the 2000s, when my grandfather passed away, my uncle decided to give up his job as a fisherman and follow in my grandfather’s footsteps. This time, however, the picture is very different – where once over 150 farmers worked, now we have fewer than 15. Cheap mineral salt and modern storage methods have taken over the preserving industry, and with it the old salt trade. Most people have given up this seasonal job, favouring a stable income.
